Pat I will be attending a meeting this Thursday on the update and will share it with all of you. Yes all the info is a help as we continue on. Yup good to hear from the class of 72 and hope we can continue to talk to each other in here as time goes on. Well just a quick message and chat later.........
You all have interesting stories. Someone should put them together into a book or something--What Became of the Class of 72. And give it out at the reunion! And then do another one in another 30 years. Well, I guess I'm getting carried away... Sue, you asked about my brother. He lives in Colchester. Maybe we can have a mini-reunion in Burlington some time?
Karen, great job gettting everyone to tell their histories. Who would have thought we'd all grow up and do stuff??????
Hey John, how goes it? I heard from Dave Merrill this a.m. he's attending with a guest. Our favorite landlady (Ainsworth-Daniels) is also attending as is Karen Vatne Hack. If any of you other yahoos out there are coming but haven't said so how about chiming in? In fact even if you can't make it. that way the class doesn't need to send unnecessary mailings. .34 a pop adds right up! I've also heard from some others who cannot attend either in my e-mail or through classmates. I can tell you who they are if that would help. Again, no need to send invites to folks who we know cannot or will not attend. Is there any further news regading cost and food arrangements, music or other tidbits of party news??
pat
Wow, John, I guess you do have 9 lives!! Best Wishes on the marriage, and I know you must be very happy. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but very glad you made it through. Guess you needed to be here to go to our 30th reunion, huh? (smile). Have a great Easter .........nancy

Wow good stories. Well does anybody have a couple of days and I will tell you my story. But here I will make it simple as I can. After 72 went to school in Laconia NH. After that here and there and a little everywhere. lol. Well then in 76 I had a diving accident and was paralyzed but Mary Hitchcock Hospital did what they know best. They fixed me up. Yup one in a million with a crushed neck and I am 100 percent ok now after a few disc removed. Now if that don't make you understand how precious life is. Then around 80 I moved to Colorado Springs for a few years. Being a Pawn Broker there I could see the heat was getting hot. lol. So moved on and went to school in Wisconsin to Become a Truck Driver. You guessed it After that I moved to Spfld. Ma. where I worked in Boston Ma. for 12 years. On the side I worked with Make-A-Wish Foundation for a few years. I figured I was lucky to be around so I wanted to help out with the kids as much as I could since I don't have any. Wow had enough city life so I decided to move back here in NH and look for work. Keep in mind that I have been studying Computers since 82 while I drove Truck. Well it paid off because I got a job as a Network Systems Administrator. Have been there for 7 years and still going strong. Well kind of had a Heart Attack 17 Months ago. Well heck I still have a few lives left. What is it 9 lives? After a few other mishaps brings it to 1 life left. I got Married last August and heck that is still going good too. So I must be on the right track now. Happy Easter to All..........
...ahh excuse me landlady susan...(Snydley Whiplash in Birkenstocks)...reports of my mental illness are greatly exaggerated...I'm simply very...colorful..yes that's it...colorful. Elysia turned 2 two weeks ago..I'm also very...tired. In the more the things change etc....Erin (my older daughter..a sophmore at Syracuse) played in the pep band for SU at Madison Square Garden this week (the NIT)...they played "The Horse".
Hi everbody, My story isn't as interesting as the others, but here goes. I went to school in Boston for a year after graduation, I learned very little in classes but I learned alot about life, and grew up a lot, exactly what I needed. Then I came home and felt sorry for myself for three years, finally I decided enough was enough, and through a series of events I joined the Air Force in ' 76. My first base was in New Mexico, where I met Marty, then in ' 79 I went to Germany...he went to Korea, but that was ok because we were just friends then. When I got back from Gremany I landed in New Jersey where he was stationed, I called him and we spent the weekend getting to know each other better...Still when I left we were just good freinds. I went to Sheppard A.F.B. in Wichita Falls TX. I had been there over 2 years when Marty came down to take a class... He proposed before he left, I had to think about it, after 7 years of being friends it was hard to think of him as a husband. I eventually decided it was the right thing to do and we were married in ' 84. I got out in ' 85, worked for a few years, then decided to go back to school, had been there a week and found out I was pregnant, so I left school deciding to stay home with "the baby". Well here we are, she is almost 14 and I am still home, I love it. She is in the school band so I am an offical "band mom", I love being able to be a part of every part of her life. Not working outside the home also allows us to go on the youth mission trip during the summer. Last year we went to Colorado, to work at an Easter Seals camp and had a great time I was such a nice break from the TX heat, they are a great group of kids, it was a life changin experience we are going again in July. I forgot to mention how we landed in Dallas, when Marty retired in ' 94 this was were he got a job, he is on his 3rd job since he retired but he has been ther six years, so I think he'll stay as long as they want him.
Well I think I droned on long enough, I am enjoying hearing what everybody is doing. Thanks Brian for setting up this site.
Have a good weekend, and Happy Easter all
Well, Nanci, apparently you haven't been to the "New Jersey" of the north country lately. Sometimes I think that Burlington is getting too urban in a way. I sometimes yearn to move to the country...but then the problem becomes "Where to work?". Lori..does your brother live in Burlington? It's hard to believe that any of us are old enough to have kids in their 20's! And then there are some of us who are starting over again, huh Robin Way?!
Good Morning all!!!

I guess it is interesting to hear where we all have gone from our 1972 graduation. We seem to have all gone in different directions, yet still seem to remember our memories in high school, and all the friendships we made. I have learned that you just take off from where you left off and most of the time it was like you never left. I know what you mean about VT. Lori. I used to come back for visits and it never seemed to change and it was always a place for me to come back to and relax and enjoy life. I think that is why my parents moved up there over 35 years ago from NJ......it was getting too hectic in NJ for us, and that was 1964(?)ish? We have gone back to visit relatives in NJ and are very glad we made the move years ago. I guess after all these years, we finally are considered Vermonters, now. It took a long time to get accepted in Baltimore, but the people there saw how my parents wanted to try and keep Vermont the way it is, not turn it into another NJ or suburb. Hope you have a great holiday weekend!!! Enjoy your families!!!

Karen, I liked your idea of just calling the kids for any computer problems. Works for me, too. I ask them (or my husband) for help with anything complicated--like how to use the remote control for the TV! Hi, Sue! Yes, my brother told me once that he ran into you. Sorry to hear about your husband. Hello to everyone else. I'm talking to all of you even if I don't mention you name by name. Guess it's my turn to tell what I've been up to the last 30 years. After a year and a half at Bennington College, I moved to Israel and continued studying there. I got my B.A. in English literature from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. That's also where I met my husband, Avi. Our 3 kids were born there, too. Our daughter is 22, and we have 2 sons, 21 and 17. We left Israel in 1985 to try our luck in L.A. After 7 years here, I was ready to go back to Israel, but Avi didn't want to give up his business here. So we decided that I'd move back with the kids, and he'd keep the business and travel back and forth. He did that for 5 years--3 weeks here, 4 weeks there--but it started to get hard on him and the business. So we moved back to L.A. in 1997. I've also been one of those stay at home moms, but while I'm at home, I write. I tried short stories for a while and had no luck with them. Now I write only poetry, and that seems to be more "my thing." I've had quite a few poems published in various literary magazines. Most of those magazines don't pay anything, but I still find it satisfying. I haven't made it to any reunions because I was either living in Israel or living here and on the way to Israel for a summer trip to visit family and friends. My parents and 2 sisters still live in Israel. My brother is in Burlington. I love visiting Vermont, and I'm glad I grew up there! Vermont always seems so sane compared to LA. Does that make sense?! I'm enjoying hearing what all of you have been up to.
Yes, she is my older sister and works at Ames as an Manager.....she graduated from SHS in '69 (one of those - groan) and bumped around the state before settling down in the Brandon area. She has a house and loves it and seems quite happy. I was in the middle and have a younger brother that is still in the Spfld. area keeping Mom on her toes.......my father passed away in '88 from cancer, and it was hard to deal with being down in FL.........too far away. I guess that is one reason I am glad I am back in the NE area. What have you been up to? I work for the Dept. of Labor in Hartford, Ct. After getting my masters in Human Relations I decided I wanted to get into the EEO field and took this job.......but compliance isn't my forte, for sure, we are as feared as IRS in some areas.
Good morning all. Nancy, I didn't remember that you have a sister. Whree does she work? Where do you work?
Hoorah! Sue you finally got in. I'm proud of you for your determination. And Karen has got everyone sharing their histories good job!

so here goes mine! After 4 years at Castleton I floated around from piddly job to piddly job. Finally took my civil service exam and started earning a good living though clerical work was dull. Got a good man though. :-)

My hubby Dave and I met while we were both working in Rutland for the Social Security Administration. We were pretty much the only two singles in our very social office so we spent a lot of time together. (apparently I had no outside friends :-( ) We were married in 79 and have 2 sons. Kev lives in Orono working at a mapping company. Draws lines on a computer. Ick. but its work. Colin lives with us still and attends NMTC earning his degree in Computer Electronics.

I stayed home with the boys when they were little and loved every minute of it. When we moved to Presque Isle, Maine 11 years ago I started substitute teaching so I could still be home when they were. Then I got an offer to work in special ed with a young lady who needed some one-to one attention. Having grown up in a spcial ed house I understood the needs of many of my students through the next years and had a personal perspective that made the adjustment a little easier. Meanwhile I had fallen in love with computing! Started spending more time on line than watching soap operas! Traded one nasty habit for another! When the Ed Tech in my middle school was arrested for inappropriate relations with her students I was in the right place to step into the job. I've been in the Skyway Computer Lab now for 2 years and I love every minute of it. I teach keyboarding and computer science. It's a ED Tech position so they don't have to pay me as a teacher though that's what I do. I have my summers to myself and that's all the bonus I need!
Hi Sue, great to hear from you!! My sister works up there and if Iknew so many SHS alumni were there, I would go up and visit. I do go to upper NY state on business as VT and NY(eastern) are part of our jurisdiction. Mom says she sees Ann quite often when she does patient escort service in the hospital. That place has sure changed!! Well......got to get ready for work, chat withyou later. Nancy

Hooray! Perhaps I can recreate my last missive...it was brilliant, of course :-) Hi all! Here I am in Burlington, where I've been since graduating from UVM. Twice I thought of moving and men got in the way. Maybe I should try that again! Even tho' I hyphenated, I'm single. I was married in '96, but my husband died. When I met Gene I knew he had AIDS, but love prevailed over fear. I am working in the affordable housing business, and have been for 18 years. I'm the director of resident services (this sounds more impressive than it is really, as nearly everyone at Lake Champlain Housing is a director of one sort or another). I am, in fact, the landlady of both Robin & Shorey! Mostly I deal with the folks we house who have a mental illness, tho' I don't believe this applies to either Robin or Shorey. I am very busy most of the time as I've become fully immersed in the Episcopal Church. Who knew I would take a religious swing? The conversion occurred shortly after Gene's death. Lori...I had lunch with your brother a long time ago when he was still in community mental health. He's in private practie now, I guess (medicating the worried well?). I talk to Larry Kruse frequently as he is a bit of a land baron here, but we've yet to lay eyes on each other. I get to Springfield just about once a year...my parents both died in the early nineties and my sister has taken over the family homestead with her husband, FIVE dogs and three kids.
Hmm....let's see if tonight's the night. Will she be able to post and publish??
Hey Sue, If you ever read this, Hello!!! Yes, Nancy I have had strays all my life, both cats and dogs.........my ex brought home a armadillo and a pigmy rallter once,,,,,,,,,he learned that I was not amused by that. I used to help run an no kill shelter down in Flordia in my off duty times at Eglin AFB. It was very rewarding and I have a cat from there still.........well, Mom does. We had to leave all out animals here in the states rather than put them all in 6 months of quarantine in the grreat UK. I hear they are starting to loosen up a bit on their restrictions. If you have all the shot records and such, it may be easier. The borading kennels made a killing for some innocent military folks.........but our were different ages and the oldest we didn't think would survuve the trip, let alone the 6 months with out the comforts of home. You can visit them, but they have to stay at the kennel..........sort of heart wrenching. But they get out eventually, so that is nice. My Mom has a humane soceity dog from the Spfld. pound and he is super.........snores and farts though. When I visit he likes to sleep with me............like I was still married!!!(smile).
Hi Pat and Sue,

Welcome Sue! Gee. I don't know why you didn't get to publish your long letter. I know it's frustrating when that happens, it's happened to me, too. But it was because I clicked another button before I posted or published. It's probably a good idea to compose in email or a word processor and paste it into the blog.

Responding to Richard's suggestion about a web cam... um, forget it. I don't want to fiddle with a borrowed laptop in a room full of lusty, guzzling stoners. I just want to be a lusty guzzling stoner. Well, at least I'd like to dance without worrying about a piece of technology not working right.

It would be cool to post some snapshots. In fact, maybe we can get some pictures up beforehand, so we can recognize each other more easily. What do you think? Want to email me some? I'll figure out a link to the gallery that can stay right on the main page.

-=Brian
Hi Karen and everyone,
Here is my 30 year story. I left UVM in '77 with my degree in Forestry and started a handmade furniture shop with a college friend. Over 5 years, I connected with many craftspeople around the US, had fun with them, and had a blast living in Burlington. I left with no particular plan, passed through New York and was hired to build puppets for Jim Henson. I had fun with many puppet builders from around the world and had a blast living in NYC. After 3 years, I came back to Burlington- where I have been ever since. Work here has been in technology, as heartless and lacking culture as work could seem at times. I went back to UVM and got an MBA where professors attempted to completely remove any heart or culture that remained, but I learned a lot. Now I work for a Swiss Telecom company (150 years old) designing things I love. I hold technology lunchs where I present stories like robots potential to take over the world. I have everyone convinced that we are already part of the robots' reproduction system; the rest being simply a matter of time. I am married with two boys, 16 and 13. I guess we are geeks (not my wife, she is just a nice artist).

All for now!
Brian, does Administrative have to checked inorder to publish? She wasn't and so I just checked it off.
Brian, Sue Ains-Dans is having challenging times here. She says she wrote a long letter but it would not post and publish. Can you get in touch with her and see if you can help her out? I've run out of ideas. Thanks - Pat
Karen, I wish you had known also. I wouldn't have been able to do much more that sit with you, but sometimes that's all you need. Keep my email address Pat sent you, and if you ever come back this way you can let me know. That goes for everyone, if you are ever in this area let me know, I would love to see you.

Nancy, I don't know if you are a dog or cat person, but I got the best dog from the shelter here 2 years ago. She is wonderful!! I have always heard that shelter pets are the best, now I know first hand
Karen, Small world, that is where I am now (Enfield) and in the process of buying a house. I also have some very good college friends in Pittsford, VT. and my sister lives in Brandon and commutes to Burlington.....sounds like you have led an interesting life as well.....boy, 4 kids, they must keep you busy!! I do alot of sewing and craft things when I have time and am looking forward to decorating my house when I get in it, close on the 30th of April. I miss not having pets, so I am going to hit the local Humae Soceity when I get settled...........
Nancy, it sounds like an adventurous and interesting journey! Rich and I were married a year after I graduated from UVM. I taught in a resource room for a couple of years while getting my master's in Learning Disabilities, but then when my daughter, the first of my 4 kids was born with a cleft palate and cerebral palsy I never went back to teaching. (She is now 21 and a junior in college in KY) We have lived briefly in Enfield, CT, in the Schenectady, NY area for 10 years, in Pittsford, VT for 7 years, Lexington, KY for 7 years and now Grand Rapids, MI ( 7 weeks!). I have mostly been doing the mom thing, which involved the usual, but also medical appts., surgeries, therapy and advocating for Ashlyn, my daughter. (She had two facial reconstructions in Dallas, in the summers of 98 and 99 and I wish I had known that there were Spfld. people in the area because I lived at Baylor for two weeks, each time.) Rich and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this June and the kids (3 boys, 1 girl) are now 12, 16, 18, 21. I don't think that teaching was really my thing and I have always enjoyed decorating, sewing, and creating STUFF (mostly floral)......I have made a little money selling to gift shops and doing work for individuals, but mostly it has been for friends, and charities. Rich is an engineer and just took a job as the assistant general manager for a company that makes auto mirrors and their electronics. That's it in a nutshell! Who's turn next?
Hi Karen, that is a good idea......so here goes...... I am back in the states after being overseas for 8 years in England. I retired from the AF back in 1991 and worked Dept. of Defense for a bit over there and decided it was time to get back to the states. I now work for the Dept. of Labor in Hartford doing EEO/AA work ( if I told you my office title, it would take a year to spell it out), by investigating companies that have federal contracts........if they take our money, they need to comply with our regulations, so to speak. This has been the closest to my Mom, brother and sister I have been in over 25 years, so it is nice to be able to get up to VT. when I want. I have seen Sue Goding and Karen Blais whenever I was back in VT. and recently got emailing with Polly. After traveling for all those years, I really do like the NE area the best, and really enjoy the 4 seasons!!! I did get married, but we got divorced a few years ago, we never had any children, so I enjoy OP's (other people's) more. It is good to hear how everyone is doing after 30 years.....it has been a long journey for all of us, but it sure went by fast!! So how about you?
There isn't enough room here to list all the vitamins and supplements I gulp down every morning! Then there's the celebrex for the tendonitis. Dave says I'm falling apart and he's ready to trade me in on a newer model. Can't say I blame him!

Tuesday, March 26, 2002

Just do what I do.........yell to one of your kids, they make all kinds of fun of you for being so phobic, then they solve your problem.........and you never learn a thing. Works for me! Hi Pat, Lori, Nancy, Nancy and everyone else who sent greetings. Maybe everyone could post what they are doing now, where they live, and other interesting stuff...........like how much gray hair, lack of hair, pear or apple shape, vitamins taken per day etc. You guys go first! HAHA!!
Hi Lori, glad my "words of wisdom" worked! I'm working on getting Sue Ainsworth in now.
Thanks, Patti! Finally found it! It's a good feeling to figure it out. Lori
G'morning Lori, If you look directly about the words Vermont Class (on the grey title bar) you see two peopleand the word my team. This button shows you the two lists. The one where we have come and signed in and below that the list of people who have been sent invites but have not responded. Where you are done looking at that you can click on posts which is the first thing in that same tool bar (above the grey bar) to return here. Give it a whirl and let me know how you make out !. Much of what I learned originally about "computers" I learned by fooling around and pushing the buttons. Be fearless! Push all the buttons! : -)

Hi again. I wasn't able to read your comments for a while. Every time I opened the blog site, it was stuck on Patti's "Yuck, yuck" comment made on March 11. I thought there were no new comments, but today I finally figured out what I was doing wrong and saw there was a lot to read. Just caught up on the skinny dipping you all did! Can't remember doing that. Must have been too much of a goody goody. Wish I had more interesting stories to tell from those years! By the way, hi Jerry! Just noticed you said hello to me. Would have responded faster if I had gotten into the blog site. Where is this "team" thing you mentioned, Patti? I don't see where to press for that. Sorry I'm so bad at this. It took me years to get near a computer! Lori
John I can also tell you who I have heard from that is not attending. Would that inf. be helpful to you?

Sunday, March 24, 2002

Hey Alex,

How are you? If you have been reading the Class Reunion Blog, so far you know that we have classmates that are awaking from dormancy like party animals (after sleeping in) to launch a 30th reunion. I will ask Brian if we can get a webcam for people like you to participate remotely.

Anyway, I have a friend that will be in New Zealand in July to ski. Where do you do that? Would it be on the south island? How many feet above sea level are the mountain tops? Are there glaciers? Are there Yeti monsters? The idea alone sounds awesome. Maybe I will be able to do it someday.

-stuck in the muck luckless (for now)
John, the following people have sent a message or indicated in classmates.com that they will be attending the reunion.
Dennis LaBombard, Nancy Yancy, Nancy Cordle, Jerry bolio, You, Larry Bartley, Robin Way, Debi Lopez, Karen Hack, John Lewis, and Me. & 9 guests. does that help at all?
